Christa Ernst

My joy in creating really took off in high school, under the instruction of my amazing art teacher. She gave me the attention I needed as well as encouragement & advice that helps to this day. After she submitted one of my paintings to an annual congressional competition, I was honored to have my work hanging in the Capital at Washington D.C. Afterwards, I worked independently to develop my creative skills while getting my degree in Child Psychology. Working with young people and learning more about inner child healing led to an interest in art as therapy.

I create for many reasons

My purpose in creating is to work through challenges in my life, to transform and heal myself, to learn and grow in the process of creating & to connect Spiritual ideas to the material world. Also, as I create –it is my sincere intention for the work to be a blessing to others. Through images of nature and our place within it, my wish is to offer hope and a sense of wholeness. Plus–and maybe most importantly!–it is a JOY to create ( :

Styles and Techniques

I have a few different styles to share. The first I call “Dictionary Deep-Dives” because I’m using words and their definitions as a source of inspiration. Many cultures have language as a part of their creation story. It appears that the “the word” is connected to life itself, so it seems fitting to work with words–their origins and meanings–as a source of manifesting a visual image.

I also enjoy spending quality time in nature and taking pictures on my journeys. The “Tranquil Trails” artwork are my original photographs that have been printed on drawing paper and then enhanced–sometimes dramatically!–by chalk pastels and acrylic paint. In other words–some things are just as it was seen in nature and some things are purely part of my imagination.

My latest project has been a series of small canvas panels exploring the main 7 chakras. For each panel, I have a symbol in the center made of paper clay. Surrounding the central symbol are key words associated with each chakra. Thanks to Carolyn Myss’ books and my teacher, Nadine Dassier for expanding my understanding & educating me about these energy systems!

More Information

There are notes available under most pieces of artwork as they appear on their designated page. I include the label that is found on the back of each piece and often I include a longer section about some of my intentions, the meanings & symbols in the artwork. Please skip this part if you want the images to speak for themselves ( : Lastly– I sometimes share how the the art was made in the hope that it will give others inspiration & ideas on creating for themselves.
